Coming from a non-sewing upbringing, I know what it’s like to have a curiosity about sewing and to pay for my own tuition when studying Fashion and Textiles for Garment Making straight out of highschool. I generally enjoyed the structure of sewing from patternmaking to runway, and eventually ended up in Sydney working for top Aussie labels such as Bassike and Sass & Bide, plus costuming on theatre shows Hairspray, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins, before landing on the set of Fox Studios ‘The Great Gatsby’.
My neighbour on maternity leave wanted someone to teach her sewing while her baby was asleep, but didn’t want to commit to classes, and the idea of private lessons in her own home turned out to be very popular, and Sewing Lessons Sydney has grown since then – 2009!
Sewing gives so many people a creative outlet, whether they work full time, or are full time parents, or have full time small business ideas! Whatever your needs, sometimes a lesson or 2 is all you need to begin your journey. Even now running a bridal studio in North Sydney, I still enjoy meeting new people keen to learn sewing, and I never tire of the joy students feel when they accomplish a project, they never thought they could in 2 hours. I share as much business knowledge as I can as we all know how difficult is is to start a fashion label, or maintain any small business. Most people just want reassurance that yes their ideas are achievable even if not conventional, and no you don’t always have to learn everything about sewing, keep it specific to your need, we can customise your private lessons to you.
